Where Did Smogleys Come From?
In 19.09 Dr. Elias Asymptote and his brother, Dr. Jerimihaz Asymptote, founded the Asymptote Institute for Scientific Inquiry (AISI). In 19.12, Dr. Elias was removed from the board of directors over a “difference in scientific vision.” After his death in 19.17, his colleague, Professor Argyle Simons, spearheaded a mass attack upon the governments of Oogerel utilizing an army of robots, thus declaring the Steel War.

For many years following the war, AISI struggled with societal trust and government affiliation, despite opposing Prof. Simons, because of the Asymptote name. Its affiliation to Simons’ philosophy, by way of Dr. Elias, generated a tainted view of the Asymptotes. Just before the Steward War of 19.40, in 19.39, the AISI was renamed the Unified Nexus for Inter-global Technologies (UNIT). UNIT’s research, post war, stemmed into bio-technology. In 19.52, leading chemist, Dr. Vizzory Abdagore, bolstered research into synthetically repairing and enhancing DNA through his subdivision, Project SUNN (Synthetic Undertaking of Natural Neo-genesis).
After a failed attempt, by a fellow scientist, of a new synthesis that was meant to enhance DNA, Dr. Abdagore noticed a test subject Puerta Nueva piglet with fractured DNA. Realizing that the subject could not live long without some form of restructure attempt, he applied the most advanced version of the serum to the subject. Within 24 hours, the subject’s DNA was complete, but reconstructed. The Puerta Nueva piglet had grown horns, and its fur transitioned to a vibrant purple. With a new DNA model, Dr. Abdagore named the new species of animal a Smogley.

Other subjects with fractured DNA were rescued utilizing the same method and Smogley’s soon became a breed. Over several years, Smogleys have become more and more widespread, leading to them becoming household pets.
